As we continue the countdown to one of our biggest events of the year, the Women of Inspiration Luncheon, we are giving you a closer look at this year’s host: Mister Manners, Thomas P. Farley. A keynote speaker and workshop leader for corporations nationwide, Farley is also a regular guest on the NBC Today show, CNN, Dr. Oz, and Rachael Ray, commentating on matters of contemporary etiquette.
As Mister Manners, Farley describes himself as fortunate to be advocating for “a way of being that has ripple effects for all of us. Put simply, it’s about walking a mile in someone else’s shoes, and with that mindset, treating others not as you wish to treat them; nor how you wish to be treated; but how they wish to be treated.”
With that in mind, Farley sees manners as more vital today than ever. “From culture wars to actual wars, conflict in Washington to conflict on the streets of our towns and cities, this strife has ramifications for the way so many of us feel on a daily basis and, in return, the way we treat one another.” He stresses the importance of “never forgetting to put people before pixels” and “common courtesy and consideration.”
At a young age, Farley was inspired by his parents and their passion for giving back. “Not a month goes by that they are not at church preparing meals for a soup kitchen, gathering canned goods for a food pantry or bringing the gift of music to a senior citizen home,” Farley says of his mother and father. “The importance of giving back was something instilled in me at a young age, and it’s something I have striven to do at every opportunity myself, whether building homes in Mexico, delivering meals to the homeless on the streets of New York, or creating a library for a rural school in Costa Rica.”
Farley also gives back as often as he can through small acts of kindness. “We all have a part to play,” he says. “It’s essential that no one sits on the sidelines waiting for someone else to step in.”
Delivering Good is thrilled to have Thomas P. Farley as our host at the 13th annual Women of Inspiration Luncheon on June 12th, at the Pierre Hotel.
