Director of Marketing and Communications

The Director of Marketing and Communications develops internal and external communications strategies for Delivering Good and oversees execution of work for all communication channels (publicity, paid/donated advertising, social media, newsletter, website, direct mail and electronic campaigns and appeals). The goal of this work is to promote and enhancing our brand with donors, community partners and the public. The Director is also responsible for raising money and product donations through the creation and execution of cause marketing, corporate social responsibility and sponsorship programs. The Director of Marketing is a member of the Delivering Good Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong, effective and highly visible leadership to the Marketing and Communications team, which includes a digital marketing and communications associate and an intern, and provide professional leadership of the Marketing Task Force, a committee of industry volunteers.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies and collateral materials (including an annual impact report) that effectively market the organization, attract product and financial donations, communicate the impact of the organization, recognize supporters, and maximize the organization's fundraising efforts.
  • Develop and execute strategies for disaster relief and recovery communications.
  • Develop and maintain a strong and productive relationship with both print and electronic media. Ensure that the organization is understood by the media and the media are interested in presenting information to the public in a manner that informs and educates them on the organization.
  • Oversee all digital properties including the website, social media, multi-media production, image and video libraries.
  • Provide ongoing media training to the management team and volunteers.
  • Direct market research activities in order to keep abreast of changing demographics and other relevant issues in order to evaluate marketing and communication activities and to monitor emerging issues.
  • Ensure the development of advertising and promotional plans and manage the annual advertising and promotional budget.
  • Maintain Delivering Good’s intellectual property assets.
  • Manage the use of external resources as they pertain to the marketing and communications function (e.g. pro bono advertising agency, printers, etc.)
  • Keep abreast of trends in the retail, fashion, children’s, home and philanthropy industries.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Cause-related Marketing/Sponsorships

  • Cause-related marketing leverages a specific product or brand in a partnership to support the mission of Delivering Good. Corporate social responsibility programs provide a benefit to society, with the program sponsored by overall company support.
  • Working with the President/CEO, the Director of Marketing will set an annual goal for financial revenue to be raised through cause-related marketing, corporate social responsibility and sponsorship programs with identified and cultivated prospects, and successfully achieve goals.
  • Prepare program pitches for each target, present the plans, execute and steward the programs and stakeholders.

Special Events

  • Participate as a member of the Developing Good events team to provide video and other assets that contribute to the communication of the Delivering Good message.
  • Participate with leadership team in developing and executing 35th anniversary commemorations.

Planning and Budgeting

  • Develop and achieve marketing/communications/public relations mission, goals and financial objectives. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to these goals and objectives, evaluate and report progress to the President and CEO and the Board.
  • Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to the smooth operation of the marketing/communications/public relations function.
  • Keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing, communications and public relations, not-for-profit management and governance, and the specific business of the organization and use this information to help the organization operate with initiative and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Passion for community service and social justice.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related experience.
  • 7-10 years' experience with record of increasing responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the digital landscape including best practices and understanding of use of social media, website and email marketing for brand building and development.
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to prioritize.
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff; and negotiating with and managing vendor.
  • Budget allocation and management experience.
  • Experience in and knowledge regarding at least one of the Delivering Good product industries (examples: retail or wholesale, apparel, footwear, toys and juvenile products, home goods) highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in lead generation and/or direct marketing desirable.
  • Experience with commercial co-venture agreements or other charitable marketing strategies desirable.
  • Knowledge of design principles as they relate to marketing.
  • Excellent decision-making and leadership skills.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Pardot and direct mail a plus.

Digital Media & Communications Associate

The Digital Media & Communications Associate is a full-time employee who manages the planning, implementation, and reporting of communications efforts for Delivering Good’s media channels: website, print, blog, social media, email campaigns and PR/publicity efforts.

The goals of work in media are:

  • Strengthening the organization’s digital and offline media presence
  • Converting subscribers/readers/followers into financial and product donors
  • Developing and expanding our B2B and B2C audience

The Digital Media & Communications Associate is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating Delivering Good’s online and offline communications, outreach and engagement strategies in support of the organization’s marketing objectives. He/she uses software tools to build content products and distributes them through the appropriate channels to reach our key audience and stakeholders.

In collaboration with other departments and the marketing team, s/he will develop and execute strategies to effectively utilize the website, social networking, email, direct mail, online and offline data and other outreach tools to communicate our mission to varied audiences and enhance our brand’s recognition. She/he will work under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage communications, outreach, branding and engagement to grow DG’s audience base and ensure that its current diverse audience remains informed and engaged in DG’s mission and impact
  • Coordinate and measure a coordinated online and offline outreach and communications strategy that meets DG’s business goals
  • Oversee online communications and ensure that they are implemented effectively and efficiently and reinforce institutional and program-specific messaging, in collaboration with Director of Marketing and Communications
  • Create, coordinate and manage content and collateral for digital and non-digital assets (including social media, blog/website, email/newsletters, annual impact report and fundraising/product appeals)
  • Maintain website content – including a weekly audits, working closely with Technology team
  • Craft reports and data to inform decisions regarding appropriate online outreach and offline communications
  • Implement, update and analyze our Google Adwords campaign
  • Track website metrics through Google Analytics and determine any needed changes to increase audience and improve Search Engine Optimization
  • Coordinate and execute email marketing resources (Pardot) and make recommendations for improving reach and engagement
  • Spearhead all press/publicity/PR media/influencer marketing outreach - pitch articles to publications and journalists on a consistent basis
  • Conduct interviews with community partners, donors, brand partners, staff - to create blog and social media content
  • Support and assist Director of Marketing and Communications on Purpose Marketing efforts
  • Collect and curate community partner feedback to present to partner brands
  • Actively seek new opportunities to engage with social media platforms, create partnerships with news organizations using social media and Delivering Good’s content
  • Oversee program participant success/impact stories from across organization and all programs
  • Assist in developing strategy to increase awareness about Delivering Good‘s success and impact through online communications and popular social media tools
  • Event support: Create slide show for annual events - Gala and Women of Inspiration sponsor ads, i.e. digital journal, and support day of activities including the red carpet
  • Support development team with event marketing and press coverage/publicity
  • Serve as coordinator and support for Florida and California strategy
  • Participate in all staff meetings and additional meetings as needed
  • Other duties related to digital media as determined from time to time
  • Work closely with Technology team to build out the digital tools, contributing create skills in video editing and images.

Required experience/education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • 1-3 years’ experience developing and maintaining websites including experience with the WordPress platform and some fluency in HTML
  • Commitment to community service and social welfare
  • Strong understanding of social media best practices and trends
  • Strong verbal and excellent written communication skills (including proofreading) in English; strong storytelling skills, experience using Word and Excel
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Web design experience and a good visual eye in colors and web layout and image optimization
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Hootsuite, Canva, WordPress, SEO and digital media metrics
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage projects, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines
  • Goal oriented, self-motivated, creative, highly flexible and adaptable to change
  • Practical knowledge of web-based communications systems and ability to monitor their results
  • Excellent organizational & time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task on press-related tasks, online and offline communications, and digital media support

This role reports to Director of Marketing.
